Lodge History

The Lodge was sponsored by Canute Lodge and was consecrated on 25th February 1933 at the Southend Masonic Centre which was situated at Southend High Street in those days. The founding members were all involved with Southend High School for Boys. The first regular meeting was held on 17th March 1933 at the Palace Hotel Southend. The Lodge remained there until moving to the new Southend Masonic centre at Woodgrange drive in 1957.

The Lodge membership is open to all candidates, not just those with a school connection. After our January meeting we have a “White Table” meal on a Burns Night Dinner theme. This is open to all members, family and friends and is a good fund raising evening for some of the charities that the Lodge donate to.

We are a member of the Federation of School Lodges and also one of the Essex Old School Lodges. We are one of only two Essex Old School Lodges that also has a Royal Arch Chapter attached to it. Members ages range from 21 – 93 years old. If you are interested in finding out more about the Lodge or Freemasonry in general, then please contact the secretary at Contact Keith.
